Why we keep one ugly draft

Every project starts with a draft we are not proud of. Here is why we never delete it.

The draft that teaches

The first version of any experiment is usually wrong in a useful way. Keeping it around gives the team something to argue against.

We label it, archive it and refer back to it when a later direction starts to feel too safe.

How we use it

The ugly draft becomes a reference for what we are leaving behind. If the final work cannot beat it on clarity, it is not finished.
